Ntpd not updating - tips of dating older women
Now I find myself in a new organization and they complain Cent OS 5.x systemsare not updating time on many of our systems.I have not yet been given accessto the machines so it is hard for me to find out what is going on.
I run it with theoption "-d" so I get entries in the messages file. Surely there must be another approach to set time like "rdate" to one of the more reliable boxes in our environment? It was created by Xinit Systems, and is based on the r Path Linux distribution. It is free software licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.My script reports that the system time and the hardware clock differ by about half a second: would correct the problem. It certainly does on my traditional non-virtualized servers. When you have access to the systems please provide some substantive information.
The fact that problems exist is insufficient to make reasonable guesses as to the cause.
Thereafter, it regularly compares local time generated by the system clock to that offered remotely, and tweaks the local clock faster or slower to keep it synchronised.
There are two levels of synchronisation: or manually) it will upset the long-term calculations for #2 and can potentially cause the clock to be disciplined so badly that it will lose or gain visibly significant time compared to reality.
Apparently ntpdateupdates the time correctly when used.
So, I now built a Cent OS 5.6 or .5 in Virtual Box and used the corporate setting and it worksjust fine for me.
If yours differs then you will need to change this if you wish to be able to talk to the outside internet from inside your RAC VM.
